I recently read an article from Forrester Research in April that shows a significant trend in mobile computing. Employees are increasingly favoring their mobile devices — both personal and company issued — to perform their daily jobs. Accessing corporate data any time, in any place and on any device is quickly becoming the new standard. IT departments are struggling to provide security for this new trend.
Users for the most part assume all their data on their device is backed-up, regardless if the IT department told them or not. As the shift occurs from company-issued devices to employee-owned devices, the backup and access controls are a challenge.
At the end of the day companies need to pair it down to policy and make a decision based on security. Consumer devices cannot dictate corporate policy. No doubt they certainly influence it. We, as IT providers, allow the use of mobile devices in the best way possible to provide the balance of security and accessibility. No company should compromise cost for security for the appearance of easy access. We have found way too much evidence of data thieves preying on IT ignorance. There is always a reason why a cheap solution exists–someone you don’t know is getting something in return. Don’t believe propaganda. Trust qualified IT service companies that are stable and consistent. Yes, TTJ is one such company and we’d be honored to assist you.
